Liverpool ready to beat Manchester City in the hunt for Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong |
Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly ready to follow in the footsteps of rivals Manchester City to enter the hunt for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019. At first, De Jong had a hard time. However, slowly the Netherlands international was able to become a mainstay in the Blaugrana midfield.
Since his arrival at Camp Nou, De Jong has played 106 times, contributing nine goals and 14 assists in all competitions.
Liverpool's interest
Unfortunately, the arrival of Xavi as Barcelona's new coach in place of Ronald Koeman recently reportedly put De Jong's future at risk.
Barcelona is also claimed to be planning to sell De Jong if there is a lucrative offer that comes in. The sale was made to overcome the financial difficulties that the Catalan club is suffering from.
Manchester City reportedly wants to sign De Jong with an offer of 90 million euros. However, now the International Business Times claims that Liverpool is also smitten with the midfielder.
Reserve player Georginio Wijnaldum
Liverpool is reportedly looking to bring De Jong to Anfield either in the January transfer window or next summer.
The central midfielder is indeed one of the most crucial needs in the Liverpool team at the moment because they have not got a replacement after losing Georginio Wijnaldum at the end of last season.
De Jong is also said to be a suitable replacement for Wijnaldum in Liverpool's midfield.
