MU's temporary coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is remembered by a fantastic moment 20 years ago when he led United to win the Champions League at Barcelona's headquarters.
In the final against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou in 1999, Solsjaer became MU's winning scorer.
When the results of this season's Champions League quarter-final draw put Manchester United against Barcelona, he gave a straightforward comment. "It should be (meeting Barcelona)," Solskjaer said, through the club's official website.
Manchester United meet Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first leg will be held at Old Trafford on April 11 local time. The second leg was held at Camp Nou on April 16, 2019 local time.
"I got a lot of messages from friends who said this would be the year we escaped because of my number, 20, and this has been 20 years (since MU won at Camp Nou). We will go to Camp Nou again," he added.
Solskjaer also recalled the historic night at Camp Nou, when Manchester United ensured the treble winner of the 1998-1999 season. In addition to winning the Champions League, Manchester United also won the Premier League and FA Cup.
"It was the biggest night I experienced in football. Of course, for all of us on the team, it was a great night," recalls Solskjaer.
"The stadium Camp Nou is incredible. And of course, we met them in the group phase this year, each with a score of 3-3 at home and away. This will be a good match," added Solskjaer.
"We want this match to be against the biggest clubs and the biggest teams. We underwent their final against 2009 and 2011 and the semifinals in 2008, when Scholesy (Paul Scholes) scored. Those matches were desirable for the club and supporters, "Solskjaer explained.
Reported by the UEFA website, Barcelona have met with Manchester United 11 times. So far, the Blaugrana have a slight lead from the Red Devils.
Barcelona won four wins, four draws, and three other matches won by Manchester United. Of the 11 meetings, Barcelona scored 20 goals while Man United netted 15 goals.
